Our Story
The pain that became our purpose
We were just children when we learned what it means to lose someone slowly, piece by piece, day by day.
We are Ingabire Pascaline and Gloria Kanyove Uwonkunda, two sisters bound by a pain that shaped everything we would become. Our father was only 45 when high blood pressure struck. We were so young. We needed him. We didn't know this was just the beginning of goodbye.
Three years later, a stroke paralyzed him. Then came type 2 diabetes. Then kidney failure. For ten agonizing years, we watched a strong man become weak. Hospital visits replaced family gatherings. Pain replaced joy. He fought battles he couldn't win.
He didn't just die. He suffered for a decade. And when he finally closed his eyes, we were left with questions that haunted us: Why? Could we be next?
They call them silent killers. We call them thieves. They stole our father. They stole our childhood. And we learned we were at risk for the same diseases.
But we remembered our father's last wish: Don't let this happen to you.
DHfree is our answer to that wish. It's our promise that his suffering won't be in vain. It's our lifeline to others who don't yet know they're at risk.
If our pain can save one life, if our story can wake someone up before it's too late, then maybe all this heartbreak means something.
This is for you, Dad. And for everyone who deserves to truly live.
